Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, in a recent interview, clarified the government’s position on the handling of the Baloch protesters, emphasizing the commitment to addressing their concerns without the use of force.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Solangi stated that the government had not employed any force against the Baloch demonstrators. He explained that Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar’s remarks were directed not against the supporters of the affected families but rather towards those endorsing terrorist organizations.
Solangi highlighted that any new government must prioritize citizen welfare and avoid misusing its power. He detailed the efforts of the negotiating committee formed by the Prime Minister, which engaged in diplomatic talks with the protesters. The protesters, he noted, have yet to submit their list of demands to the authorities.
The Information Minister assured that all detained women and children were released on the first day of negotiations, followed by the release of an additional 163 individuals two days later, and the remaining 34 subsequently. He confirmed that security and ambulance facilities were provided to the demonstrators and that no protesters are currently detained.
Regarding the political landscape, Solangi emphasized that there are no restrictions on political activities in Pakistan, and everyone has the right to engage in politics. He expressed concern, however, that certain political groups might exploit the protesters for political gain.
Addressing the upcoming elections, Solangi assured full cooperation of the caretaker government with the Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure peaceful, transparent, and unbiased elections across the country. He dismissed any suggestions of election delays, confirming that the elections are scheduled to take place on February 8 this year.
The interview with Minister Solangi served to provide clarity on the government’s approach to the recent protests and its commitment to maintaining democratic processes in the country.
