Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, emphasized that parliament holds supreme authority in legislation, during a press conference held in Islamabad today.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Tarar discussed the recently passed ‘Elections (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024’, which mandates that independent members must join a political party within a specified timeframe, now formalized into law. He addressed the permanence of affidavits submitted by independents when joining parties, asserting that floor crossing is prohibited under both law and constitution.

Furthermore, the Information Minister updated on the ongoing dialogues with Jamaat-e-Islami, indicating positive advancements and anticipating conclusive talks scheduled for later today. He reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering relief to the public.

Tarar also commented on the current situation in Bangladesh, expressing solidarity with its people and praising their resilience. He criticized both Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid and the PTI for their political tactics, including seeking foreign intervention and engaging in divisive and corrupt practices. Specifically, he condemned Hasina’s alleged solicitations for support from a nation accused of human rights violations in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
