Karachi, In a significant move, the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has banned the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (JKML), an organization headed by the incarcerated Masarrat Aalam Butt, in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This decision is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to quell the Kashmiri struggle for independence.
According to Kashmir Media Service, was enacted under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), declaring the organization as an ‘unlawful association’ for a period of five years. Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, in a post on social media platform X, stated that the JKML and its members are engaged in activities that are anti-India and pro-freedom.
This latest ban is in line with the Modi government’s previous actions against organizations involved in the Kashmiri freedom movement. Notably, the government has already prohibited groups such as the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, and Jamaat-e-Islami in IIOJK, citing their significant roles in the ongoing struggle against Indian rule.
