Government Expands Export Financing to Boost Pakistan’s Economic Growth

Islamabad: In a move to bolster export-led economic growth, the Government of Pakistan has introduced significant measures aimed at expanding access to export financing, both in the short and long term. This initiative is designed to enhance the competitiveness of Pakistani exporters and promote economic growth through increased exports.

According to Press Information Department, the Export-Import Bank of Pakistan (Pak EXIM) is playing a crucial role in this effort, managing key export financing schemes to meet the financing needs of exporters and strengthen Pakistan’s export capabilities. The Enhanced Export Finance Scheme (EFS) has been increased from PKR 1,000 billion to PKR 1,500 billion for the fiscal year 2026-27, with a substantial allocation of PKR 300 billion specifically set aside for SME exporters, Agri-SMEs, and new borrowers. This allocation aims to broaden access to export finance for businesses that traditionally faced challenges in obtaining such support.

The government has also launched the Long-Term Export Growth Financing Facility (LTEGFF), allocating PKR 350 billion to support long-term investments and export capacity building. This facility is intended to aid exporters in making investments in new plant and machinery, as well as in projects that align with Pakistan’s transition towards a greener economy. Through the management of these strategic export financing schemes, Pak EXIM, in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), is working to expand access to both working capital and long-term investment financing for exporters.

Pak EXIM has further facilitated these processes through the development of an EFS Digital Portal, which connects Pak EXIM with participating financial institutions (PFIs) across the country. This digital integration enhances efficiency and transparency in the management of export finance. Pak EXIM remains committed to collaborating with stakeholders, including the Government of Pakistan, SBP, PFIs, and exporters, to build a more competitive and sustainable export sector for Pakistan.
