ROME: Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has urged for coordinated global efforts to safeguard food security and public health. Addressing the opening plenary session of the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems, he emphasized that global commitments should be translated into practical actions at the national level with effective coordination and implementation.

According to Radio Pakistan, Tanveer highlighted Pakistan’s focus on developing healthier and more resilient livestock and food production systems. On the matter of food safety, he underscored the necessity of protecting consumers at all stages of the food chain, from farm to table. He advocated for enhanced surveillance of foodborne diseases and antimicrobial resistance, coupled with responsible antimicrobial use under a coordinated One Health framework.

The Minister also highlighted the significant role of women in livestock production and household nutrition. He stressed that improving women’s access to knowledge, services, technology, finance, and markets is crucial for strengthening rural livelihoods and advancing One Health objectives.
