New York: Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, engaged in multiple high-level meetings in New York during the UNGA High-Level Week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly session. The Finance Minister addressed Pakistan’s climate vulnerability, the potential of digital transformation, and the need for effective climate actions.

According to Press Information Department, during the World Economic Forum’s “Financing Planet and Prosperity” meeting, Aurangzeb stressed Pakistan’s susceptibility to climate-related disasters, especially floods impacting infrastructure and communities. He detailed the Government’s initiatives to enhance disaster-response systems and climate-investment strategies, underscoring the necessity for both external aid and domestic financial resources.

Aurangzeb also pointed to financial mobilization efforts through the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and international capital markets aimed at relief and reconstruction. He urged international climate funds to streamline their processes for quicker access to funds.

In addressing digital innovation, the Finance Minister opened the “United Nations Digital Cooperation Day 2026” event by discussing Pakistan’s shift towards a regulated virtual-assets framework. He highlighted that tokenisation should meet economic needs like cheaper remittances and SME financing, advocating for private-sector innovation backed by robust state safeguards and international collaboration.

Additionally, Aurangzeb participated in the launch of the COP31 Action Agenda, expressing Pakistan’s support and alignment with the agenda’s climate priorities. He noted shared goals such as clean energy, renewable expansion, and climate education, emphasizing the need for actionable, measurable outcomes to transform plans into reality.
