Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, engaged in discussions with a high-level delegation from the Gates Foundation, led by Dr. Anita Zaidi and Ms. Kalpana Kochhar, at the Finance Division. The meeting focused on economic reforms, human capital, and development priorities in Pakistan.
According to Press Information Department, the Finance Minister welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the Gates Foundation’s ongoing support and collaboration with Pakistan. He emphasized the mutual benefits of continued engagement through knowledge sharing and technical expertise.
Ms. Kalpana Kochhar outlined the Foundation’s initiatives in Pakistan, particularly in human capital development, focusing on women’s economic participation and child health. She highlighted the South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa program’s multi-faceted approach, combining cash transfers and nutrition support, and the nationwide efforts through UNICEF’s “Livelihood 2.0” to address childhood stunting.
Dr. Anita Zaidi discussed the Foundation’s maternal health initiatives and the use of artificial intelligence to enhance health outcomes, including collaborations with the LUMS AI Hub for personalized solutions during pregnancy and delivery. The discussion also included AI applications for low-connectivity environments.
The dialogue addressed population growth, maternal and child health, and education. The Finance Minister emphasized federal-provincial coordination and women’s empowerment as key strategies, alongside economic reforms focused on investor confidence, privatization, and digital technologies to enhance government efficiency.
The Gates Foundation representatives expressed interest in supporting access to finance for SMEs through digital and data-driven solutions. They discussed opportunities in agriculture and the digital economy, with a focus on private-sector-led investments and strengthening Pakistan’s private equity ecosystem.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration in human capital, health, financial inclusion, and digital innovation, underscoring the importance of the Gates Foundation’s technical expertise and financial support in advancing Pakistan’s development goals.
