Finance Minister Discusses Pakistan’s Economic and Diplomatic Efforts


Washington, D.C.: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, recently appeared on “Mornings with Maria” on Fox Business Network during the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings 2026. He discussed Pakistan’s economic prospects and its involvement in diplomatic initiatives in the region.



According to Press Information Department, the interview included a segment from host Maria Bartiromo’s conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, who acknowledged Pakistan’s leadership in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran. Senator Aurangzeb expressed gratitude for the trust placed in Pakistan by various global entities and emphasized the country’s active participation in promoting regional stability through diplomatic means.



The Finance Minister addressed the economic challenges posed by the ongoing Middle East conflict, highlighting Pakistan’s efforts to manage energy-related issues and maintain supply chain continuity. He noted that the long-term economic impacts would depend on the conflict’s duration, but stressed that Pakistan’s macroeconomic indicators remain stable, supported by robust remittances and a current account surplus.



Senator Aurangzeb also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to financial discipline, citing the timely repayment of a USD 1.4 billion Eurobond. He acknowledged the support from Saudi Arabia, including USD 3 billion in additional deposits, which bolsters Pakistan’s external financial position. The government is also planning to access international capital markets, with preparations for a Panda Bond issuance and exploration of other financing options.



The interview highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to economic stability, fulfilling external obligations, and contributing to regional peace through diplomatic efforts.
