Finance Minister Aurangzeb Pledges Continued Reforms and Fiscal Discipline

LONDON: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has reiterated the government’s dedication to maintaining fiscal discipline and advancing reform efforts, with a focus on fostering both domestic and international private investment. Speaking at the J.P. Morgan Conference in London, Aurangzeb emphasized the government’s strategy to transition towards a growth model driven by investment, productivity, exports, and private sector activity rather than short-term consumption-led expansion.

According to Radio Pakistan, Aurangzeb outlined plans to establish a National Private Equity Framework aimed at channeling institutional capital into businesses and projects, thereby enhancing the private equity and venture capital ecosystem. The Finance Minister also highlighted efforts to broaden access to finance across sectors such as SMEs, agriculture, and housing, intending to convert macroeconomic stability into increased credit, investment, and productive activities.

Finance Minister Aurangzeb further elaborated on Pakistan’s shift from a reliance on aid to fostering robust trade and investment relationships. He underscored the necessity of strengthening both goods and services trade and attracting long-term investment through mutually beneficial economic partnerships. Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Jameel Ahmad, also addressed the conference, noting improvements in Pakistan’s external economic position, including enhanced foreign exchange reserves and rising remittance flows.
