Finance Minister Addresses Pakistan’s Climate Challenges at UN Event

New York: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, spotlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change at the UN-hosted “Solutions Dialogue on Climate Finance,” held during his official trip to New York for the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Press Information Department, the Finance Minister underscored the necessity for the Government to develop effective adaptation frameworks, early-warning systems, climate strategies, and a portfolio of feasible projects. He noted that achieving climate resilience should start with strengthening domestic macroeconomic stability and building fiscal and external buffers, while international assistance should enhance national efforts.

He elaborated on Pakistan’s diversified financing strategy, which integrates domestic resources with support from the World Bank and the IMF’s Resilience and Sustainability Facility, access to capital markets through green instruments, and collaborations with private investors.

The Finance Minister expressed concerns about delays in operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund and called on the Green Climate Fund and other global institutions to streamline their accreditation, approval, and disbursement processes to improve access to climate finance for vulnerable nations.
