Islamabad: A high-level meeting focused on the issues of Gilgit-Baltistan was held in Islamabad, chaired by Federal Minister for Law & Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar. The meeting, part of the Prime Minister’s Sub-Committee efforts, aimed to address the political, constitutional, legal, administrative, and economic matters facing the region.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting was attended by Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Advocate Amjad Hussain and Leader of the Opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, who provided detailed briefings on the region’s challenges. Minister of State for Law & Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik, along with secretaries of relevant ministries and other senior officials, were also present.

The discussions centered on practical measures to ensure effective political and economic rights for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and their involvement in national life. Senator Tarar emphasized the government’s priority on integrating Gilgit-Baltistan into the national framework and mentioned ongoing consultations with various stakeholders.

Chief Minister Hussain highlighted the need for a sustainable framework to strengthen the constitutional and legal identity of Gilgit-Baltistan. Opposition Leader Hafeez-ur-Rehman echoed the importance of considering the aspirations of the people in crafting a constitutional solution.

The meeting also covered economic and financial requirements, focusing on energy, tourism, natural resources, revenue, and connectivity. Proposals were sought from relevant authorities and local leadership to address immediate issues and implement practical resolutions.
