New York: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, addressed the country’s significant vulnerability to climate-related disasters at the World Economic Forum’s “Financing Planet and Prosperity” meeting on September 23, 2026. He underscored the impact of floods on infrastructure and communities, while outlining the government’s strategic initiatives to bolster disaster response.

According to Press Information Department, the Finance Minister detailed the government’s efforts to enhance disaster-response frameworks, improve early-warning systems, and develop costed climate-investment plans. He emphasized that while external support is crucial, it must be matched by domestic resources and fiscal planning. The minister highlighted the mobilization of financing from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and international capital markets aimed at relief, adaptation, and reconstruction initiatives.

Senator Aurangzeb also urged international climate funds, including the Green Climate Fund and the Loss and Damage Fund, to streamline their procedures and expedite the release of financing. He cautioned against complacency in addressing these challenges, stressing the importance of timely action and collaboration.
