Karachi: In a significant development following extended negotiations, the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance hosted a reception to honor Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan. The event marked the successful resolution of disputes between the Government and transporters, leading to the end of a prolonged strike. Transporters welcomed the Minister with enthusiasm, expressing their appreciation for the Government’s concessions.

According to Press Information Department, Abdul Aleem Khan addressed the gathering, emphasizing the Government’s commitment to fulfilling the agreements reached with transporters. Under the directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Khan chaired a dedicated committee that engaged in nine days of intensive discussions with the transporters, resulting in a favorable outcome. He assured those present that the Motorway Police would not issue unjustified challans, emphasizing that compliance with traffic regulations would be strictly monitored.

Khan highlighted the substantial role transporters play in the national economy and underscored the importance of their cooperation for the country’s development. The Minister reiterated that adherence to the axle-load policy and other regulatory limits is crucial, not only for protecting vehicles and roads but also in ensuring national interest. He committed to personally overseeing transport issues if necessary and tasked key officials to address transporters’ concerns directly on highways.

Malik Shehzad Awan, President of the Goods Transporters Alliance, expressed gratitude to the Government and specifically acknowledged the efforts of Abdul Aleem Khan in amicably resolving the issues. The gathering included several leaders from the transport sector, signaling a collective appreciation for the Government’s responsive approach.
