Islamabad: Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has announced that consultations regarding the constitutional and legal framework of Gilgit-Baltistan are currently in progress. The discussions aim to include all relevant stakeholders in deliberations on future administrative and constitutional arrangements for the region. The law minister has extended invitations to the Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition of Gilgit-Baltistan to participate in the upcoming meeting.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting of the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Issues Working Group took place on Friday, chaired by the Federal Minister for Law and Justice at the Ministry of Law and Justice. Representatives from Gilgit-Baltistan, along with officials from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Kashmir Affairs, and the Gilgit-Baltistan Council, were present.

The meeting engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the constitutional, legal, financial, and administrative aspects concerning Gilgit-Baltistan. Participants examined various options and previous reports, and evaluated proposals and models related to the financial resources of the region.

The meeting also explored potential reforms within Gilgit-Baltistan’s existing governance framework. Senator Tarar emphasized that constitutional matters would be addressed comprehensively, with an integrated approach to financial, administrative, and constitutional issues.

The Federal Minister instructed the Working Group to develop practical proposals for resolving the region’s issues, suggesting that an interim report with recommendations be submitted to the main committee. He indicated that additional time would be necessary for reaching an agreed solution.

Senator Tarar highlighted the importance of achieving national consensus on Gilgit-Baltistan’s constitutional matters and emphasized the inclusion of all relevant parties’ perspectives. He reiterated the commitment to protecting the rights and ensuring equality for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
