Islamabad: Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, has officially inaugurated the Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal, a newly established body aimed at ensuring fair and efficient resolution of disputes in the telecommunication sector.

According to Press Information Department, the inauguration ceremony took place in Islamabad on Thursday and was attended by Justice (Retd.) Muhammad Tariq Abbasi, who has been appointed as the Chairman of the Tribunal. Other notable attendees included Technical Member Imad Memon, Finance Member Muhammad Tanveer Butt, and various distinguished guests.

Senator Tarar emphasized the importance of the Tribunal in facilitating the timely delivery of justice, particularly as the telecommunication sector continues to play a significant role in Pakistan’s economic and social development. He noted the need for a robust legal and judicial framework to address the complexities arising from rapid technological advancements.

The Tribunal is headed by a retired High Court judge and includes experts from both the financial and telecommunication sectors. This composition is intended to effectively address the legal, financial, and technical complexities of cases. The Federal Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening institutions and ensuring the rule of law, with the objective of providing accessible and speedy justice to citizens.

Senator Tarar expressed hope that the Tribunal would operate with professionalism, integrity, and impartiality, contributing positively to the development of the telecommunication sector. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Chairperson, members, officers, and staff in making the Tribunal operational swiftly, and he praised the support provided by the National Information Technology Board (NITB) in establishing the institution.
