Islamabad: The Emergency Response Committee convened its 11th meeting at the National Emergencies Operations Centre in Islamabad to assess the ongoing monsoon situation and national preparedness. The meeting, held under the direction of the Prime Minister, was chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, via video link. Key federal ministers, NDMA officials, and representatives from various departments attended the session.

According to Press Information Department, the committee evaluated the current hydrological conditions, weather outlook, and emergency preparedness measures. A detailed briefing from the National Emergencies Operations Centre highlighted the expected continuation of rainfall over the upper catchments of major rivers and several regions, with potential urban flooding and increased river flows. The meeting underscored the importance of coordinated response arrangements.

Chairman NDMA, Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, shared insights from Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s visit to the National Emergencies Operations Centre, where the Chief of Army Staff reviewed disaster preparedness frameworks. The NDMA’s efforts in enhancing national readiness were acknowledged, and the need for continued collaboration among stakeholders was emphasized. The session also discussed NDMA’s field assessments in Narowal and Sheikhupura to evaluate district-level readiness.

Provincial authorities provided updates on their preparedness measures, focusing on resource availability and communication strategies. The importance of timely warnings and maintaining response agency readiness was highlighted. The Chair urged all departments to maintain close coordination for swift implementation of measures, advising the public to adhere to official advisories and use NDMA platforms for updates.
