Islamabad: On the directions of the Prime Minister, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened the 17th meeting of the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) to assess the 2026 monsoon situation and national preparedness strategies. The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Planning & Special Initiatives Prof Dr Ahsan Iqbal, took place at the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) in Islamabad and included key government officials and representatives from disaster management and meteorological departments.

According to Press Information Department, the committee evaluated the current monsoon conditions, hydrological status, and preparedness plans. The NEOC delivered a briefing on weather forecasts, river conditions, and potential impacts, highlighting risks of urban and flash flooding in northeastern Punjab and other regions. The rain-bearing system is expected to persist until September 4, potentially causing emergencies in vulnerable northern districts.

District Administration Rawalpindi reported preparedness for Nullah Lai, emphasizing high alert status and safe evacuation procedures. Provincial authorities outlined rescue resources, emergency stock availability, and coordination efforts. The committee underscored the importance of continuous communication, early warning dissemination, and readiness of response agencies, stressing proactive district-level measures to safeguard communities.
