ISLAMABAD: The Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, reiterated the importance of implementing United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions during a meeting with Olara Otunnu, a candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations, in Islamabad on Friday. The discussion focused on the global landscape and the challenges facing the multilateral system.

According to Radio Pakistan, Otunnu was accompanied by Ruhakana Rugunda, the Special Envoy of the President and former Prime Minister of Uganda. During their talks, Dar emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and the need to strengthen international systems through the effective implementation of agreements and decisions made in multilateral forums. He highlighted the significance of adhering to international law and UNSC resolutions, with particular reference to the issues of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.

Dar expressed optimism that the forthcoming UN Secretary-General would enhance the UN’s ability to tackle contemporary global issues. Otunnu acknowledged Pakistan’s significant role in international peace and security efforts, including its contributions to UN peacekeeping operations. He also praised the diplomatic efforts of the Pakistani leadership aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.

Additionally, Ruhakana Rugunda extended an invitation to Deputy Prime Minister Dar to visit Uganda, further cementing the diplomatic ties between the two nations.
