Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized the importance of digital technology skills in enabling Pakistan to compete in global markets. Speaking at the conclusion of the Digital Design and Verification Training Programme 2026 at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Iqbal stressed the necessity of transforming education into technological solutions to drive the country’s economy.

According to Press Information Department, the training program saw forty students complete a four-month course aimed at enhancing their capabilities in semiconductor technology and chip design. Iqbal highlighted the critical role of semiconductor technology across various sectors, underscoring its significance in the global economy and the development of emerging technological fields.

Iqbal pointed out that the future of Pakistan’s economy hinges on knowledge, technology, innovation, and exports. He called for young Pakistanis to build globally competitive unicorn companies and emphasized the role of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and other advanced technologies in reshaping industries.

He also highlighted the importance of a robust education system that fosters research, creativity, and critical thinking, urging for curricular reforms to unlock students’ potential. Reflecting on Pakistan’s achievements, including its status as a nuclear power, he noted the challenges of political instability and the need for policy continuity.

Iqbal reiterated the significance of initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the establishment of National Centres in key technological fields. He concluded by stressing the need for a generation capable of creating employment and developing competitive products to boost exports, ultimately establishing Pakistan’s global identity as a technology-driven economy.
