New York: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice-President of the European Commission, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, underscoring the critical trade ties between Pakistan and the European Union.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting emphasized Pakistan’s partnership with the EU, particularly highlighting the importance of the Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) for enhancing trade relations. The discussion also covered regional and global developments, with both officials exchanging views on the current geopolitical landscape.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar expressed appreciation for the EU’s constructive engagement with Pakistan amid recent regional developments and acknowledged the EU’s recognition of Pakistan’s efforts toward promoting de-escalation and dialogue. He underscored the need for returning to dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing the full implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding by all parties involved. Both sides committed to maintaining close engagement on matters of mutual interest.
