Crime in Islamabad Decreases by 20% as Police Intensify Efforts

Islamabad: The Inspector General of Police in Islamabad announced a significant 20% reduction in crime in 2025, attributing the success to comprehensive policing strategies and enhanced community cooperation. IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi highlighted the decrease during high-level meetings, which emphasized continued efforts to further lower crime rates.

Inspector General Rizvi conducted reviews of senior officers and crime unit leaders, focusing on individual performances and strategic assignments. The meetings aimed to assess and enhance policing tactics across the capital.

Significant reductions were reported in various crime categories, with banditry down by 19%, theft and robbery by 12%, and armed robbery by 74%. Vehicle and motorcycle thefts saw a 22% decrease, credited to the efforts of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell and local police stations.

To sustain this progress, the IGP directed officers to increase search operations, target drug networks, and improve surveillance with Safe City cameras. Enhanced patrolling and prompt action against known criminal groups were also emphasized as key strategies.

IGP Rizvi noted that 600 fewer incidents were reported this year compared to 2024, underscoring the impact of effective policing and coordinated efforts. The Islamabad Police remain dedicated to public safety and encouraged citizens to continue cooperating with law enforcement to build a peaceful community.
