Contaminated Water Claims Another Life in Baramulla, Sparking Concerns

Srinagar: In a troubling incident highlighting ongoing water safety concerns, a man has died in Laridora, Baramulla, due to suspected contaminated water consumption. This follows multiple fatalities in Budhal, Rajouri, in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The man was discovered deceased inside a filtration plant in the Thanda Kasi area, according to Kashmir Media Service. Authorities responded promptly, with police securing the body for necessary medico-legal actions.

Officials from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Division Baramulla issued an alert advising residents against consuming water from the implicated filtration plant. Aijaz Ahmad, Executive Engineer of PHE Division Baramulla, confirmed the discovery of an unidentified body at the Laridora water supply scheme, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

Ahmad urged residents of Laridora and Rajpora to refrain from using the water collected on the day of the incident, underscoring the potential health risks.

The incident in Baramulla comes in the wake of 17 recent deaths in Budhal, Rajouri, attributed to contaminated water, raising concerns about the availability of safe drinking water in the region. Despite repeated incidents, authorities have yet to effectively address the issue, with the problem now extending to Baramulla district.
