Construction of Rs120 Million Floating Jetty Commences at Korangi Fisheries Harbour

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, announced the initiation of construction on a floating jetty at the Korangi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KoFHA), valued at Rs120 million. The project is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of seafood exports by facilitating the offloading of export-quality fish catches.

According to Press Information Department, the announcement was made during a meeting of the KoFHA board, which included Director General Dr. Shahid Aslam, Chairman Abrar Asim, and other members. The minister highlighted the project’s importance for small-scale fisherfolk and anticipated its completion by June 2026.

The floating jetty is designed to provide safer and more reliable access to water, allowing for the smooth landing and unloading of fish. It is expected to boost operational efficiency and create economic opportunities for coastal communities. Unlike fixed structures, the floating jetty will adapt to tidal variations, ensuring uninterrupted access for fishing vessels.

Improved accessibility is set to reduce turnaround times, enabling fishermen to spend more time at sea and cut operational costs. The facility will include an offloading point with catch monitoring systems to support sustainable fishing practices and enhance resource management.

Junaid Chaudhry noted the cost-effectiveness of floating jetties in areas with tidal fluctuations, emphasizing that environmental considerations would guide the design and construction process. The project is expected to strengthen the fisheries sector and contribute to the socio-economic development of coastal communities.
