Commonwealth Secretariat Team visits Pakistan 

Islamabad, September 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):Commonwealth representatives arrived in Pakistan, to preview the arrangements for the 10th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting. The delegation comprised Mr. Layne Anthony Robinson, Head, Social Policy Development Section, Ms. Amira Serhani, Events and Protocol Manager, Mr. Animesh Sankhyan, Information Security Officer, and Ms. Tamara Babao-Sadgrove, Operations Officer, Social Policy Development Section. The delegate met with the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and other concerned officials. 10th Edition of Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meetings will be held in Pakistan.

This event bears great significance for the country, as it will drive the attention of the world toward major problems faced by the young population of Pakistan, which constitutes more than 68 percent of the country’s total population. Minister’s meeting will also highlight the adverse impacts of climate change in the country. Featuring the youth ministers from 56 different countries, the commonwealth youth minister’s meeting will be a great victory for Pakistan on diplomatic grounds. An international venture like CYMM will also assist Government, to highlight the tragedies caused due to recent floods all across Pakistan. SAPM held several extensive meetings with the commonwealth delegation and gave them an overview of different initiatives under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.

Delegation commended the role of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme in empowering the young population of the country. Representatives of the Commonwealth also reviewed the proposed plan for the conference and discussed matters related to the event with different organizing committees. The delegation also held meetings with Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, SAPM Ms Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Convener NPTF on SDGs, Head and Deputy Head of the Taskforce including Secretary MOFA, Secretary Interior, and Chief Commissioner/Chairman, CDA to discuss the administrative and operational arrangements for upcoming commonwealth event.

Mr. Layne Anthony Robinson gave a detailed concluding presentation to highlight important matters about CYMM and applauded the PMYP team for working effectively to formulate the initial plan for the meeting. We are looking forward to working with the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme in the upcoming months, the representative said. The delegation also visited different sites in the capital city and thanked the PMYP for their great hospitality.
