KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah held a virtual meeting with World Bank Country Director Ms. Bolormaa Amgaabazar to review the progress of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP).
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting was attended by several key officials, including Minister for Planning and Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, and CEO of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Ahmed Siddiqui. The discussion focused on the implementation status of KWSSIP-I and the progress of the K-IV Augmentation Project.
Officials reported advancements in providing safe drinking water to nearly two million people through enhanced chlorination facilities and improved water quality monitoring. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of completing reform and development initiatives transparently and efficiently, highlighting the government’s commitment to modernizing the water utility services in Karachi.
The meeting also reviewed the development of the 2.7-kilometre common corridor component of the K-IV Augmentation Project, with progress made on large-diameter pipelines expected to be completed by August 2026. The World Bank Country Director acknowledged the Sindh government’s dedication to reforming Karachi’s water sector and recognized the progress in meeting project requirements.
Additional updates included nearing completion of customer service centers, rehabilitation works, and metering initiatives. The Chief Minister instructed officials to expedite the recruitment of technical and management staff for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming the city’s water and sanitation sector through continued investment and collaboration with development partners.
