Islamabad: The Emergency Response Committee (ERC), established on the directives of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to oversee national preparedness and response efforts for Monsoon 2026, convened its fourth meeting at the National Emergencies Operation Centre, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Headquarters in Islamabad.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, who participated via a zoom link. Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan joined through video link. The session was attended by Federal Minister for Water & Resources Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, Minister of State for National Food Security & Research Malik Rasheed Ahmad Khan, Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, and senior officials of NDMA, alongside representatives from relevant federal ministries and departments.

The committee assessed the preparedness measures implemented by provincial disaster management authorities, with PDMAs presenting updates on relief supplies, emergency communication systems, evacuation strategies, and inter-agency coordination. Professor Ahsan Iqbal, the convenor, acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders and emphasized the importance of seamless coordination among response agencies to ensure timely decision-making and resource mobilization.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the ERC’s commitment to enhancing national coordination and ensuring a unified response to protect lives, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure during the monsoon season.
