Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Mustafa Kamal, chaired a meeting to evaluate advancements in Pakistan’s local vaccine production and the modernization of the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC).

According to Press Information Department, the meeting included the Federal Secretary for Health, CEOs of Health and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), and representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). ADB representatives provided updates on the Vaccine Development Project, emphasizing efforts to bolster Pakistan’s vaccine manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, progress on the digitization and reform of PNMC was discussed.

Minister Mustafa Kamal called for expedited efforts on local vaccine production to promote self-reliance in vaccine manufacturing, stressing the need for timely completion of all regulatory and technical requirements. He highlighted indigenous vaccine production as a strategic priority for enhancing health security and ensuring a steady supply of vaccines.

On nursing sector reforms, the Minister stated that comprehensive changes are necessary to strengthen the healthcare system. He instructed that the PNMC should be fully digitized and modernized to align with international standards, improving governance and service delivery. The Minister also underscored the need for measures to address the growing demand for skilled nursing and midwifery professionals through enhanced education and professional development.

Asian Development Bank representatives reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with the Government of Pakistan, pledging continued support for health sector initiatives. Minister Kamal acknowledged ADB’s valuable contributions to health sector reforms and healthcare improvement in Pakistan.
