Islamabad: China has donated veterinary vaccines to Pakistan to enhance efforts against livestock diseases, underscoring the deepening cooperation between the two nations in agriculture and livestock management. The donation, aimed at combating Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and Brucella melitensis, was marked by a ceremony at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) in Islamabad, attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research Rana Tanveer Hussain and other officials.

According to Press Information Department, the event saw participation from Mr. Shi Yuanqiang, Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, alongside senior government officials, livestock experts, and representatives from the Chinese Embassy. The federal minister expressed gratitude towards the Chinese government and its Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, highlighting the importance of the contribution in reinforcing Pakistan’s livestock health measures.

Minister Hussain emphasized the critical role of livestock in Pakistan’s agricultural sector and the significant economic impacts of diseases like LSD and Brucella on farmers’ livelihoods. He noted that timely vaccination is a key preventive strategy to protect livestock, reduce disease transmission, and minimize economic losses.

The donated vaccines are expected to bolster Pakistan’s efforts in safeguarding livestock health, ensuring sustainable development, and enhancing productivity. Hussain appreciated China’s expertise in the field and expressed interest in expanding technical cooperation for future advancements.

The ministry plans to coordinate with provincial livestock departments and research institutions for effective vaccine utilization, adhering to technical and regulatory standards. A field demonstration at NARC highlighted the practical application of the vaccines as part of the initiative.

The minister acknowledged the collaborative efforts of Pakistani and Chinese officials and experts in this initiative, reiterating the commitment to strengthening Pakistan-China agricultural partnerships for the benefit of farmers and rural communities.
