Phnom Penh: Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, addressed the inaugural session of the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) in Phnom Penh, urging for enhanced parliamentary cooperation in tackling global issues. The event was attended by Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet and Senate President Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Sen.

According to Press Information Department, Chairman Gilani expressed gratitude to the Cambodian leadership, particularly His Majesty the King of Cambodia, for supporting the conference. He praised Prime Minister Hun Manet’s involvement as a testament to Cambodia’s dedication to fostering parliamentary dialogue and lauded Samdech Hun Sen’s efforts in uniting parliamentary leaders.

The conference, themed “Solidarity for Peace and Shared Prosperity – Strengthening International Law and Resolving Conflicts Peacefully,” served as a platform for Chairman Gilani to advocate for parliamentary unity in addressing global challenges such as armed conflict, terrorism, climate change, and economic disparity. He emphasized the need for a shift from dialogue to actionable results, proposing mechanisms for swift parliamentary responses to crises and a stronger commitment to international law.

Gilani highlighted Pakistan’s role in regional peace, citing collaboration with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, and underscored the potential of parliamentary diplomacy to open new channels for dialogue. He invoked the words of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, emphasizing leadership rooted in courage and conviction.

The conference, hosted by the Kingdom of Cambodia, aims to advance discussions on peace, development, and global cooperation among parliamentary leaders.
