ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Committee on Energy has approved a high-level design report for the Integrated Energy Plan 2027-2060, aiming to bolster energy security and economic competitiveness within the power sector. The approval was granted during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, reflecting a commitment to future energy needs.
According to Radio Pakistan, the plan engages stakeholders beyond federal and provincial governments, focusing on a strategy to provide electricity to industrial and domestic consumers at reasonable prices. The strategy emphasizes low-carbon power generation, promoting environmentally and climate-friendly energy sources. Amendments to the National Electricity Plan 2023-2027, presented by the Power Division, address integrated energy planning, increased power generation, renewable energy supply in remote areas, cross-border electricity trade, and transmission system expansion.
The Cabinet Committee advised further consultations with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority regarding these amendments. Additionally, a report on circular debt in the power and gas sectors for the financial year 2025-2026 was presented during the meeting.
