BJP’s “Washing Machine” Politics Criticized Amid Corruption Allegations

New Delhi, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing significant backlash for what has been dubbed as “washing machine” politics, a phenomenon where accusations of corruption against politicians appear to be “cleansed” upon their joining the BJP. This approach has sparked controversy, with critics arguing that it is a tactic to undermine political opposition and manipulate power dynamics in the party’s favor.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the debate around this issue intensified following comments by Maharashtra Minister Rao Sahab Danve, who suggested that affiliation with the BJP acts as a purification process, thereby exonerating new members from any corruption charges. This assertion has been met with widespread criticism, particularly from opposition parties who accuse the Modi government of employing unethical strategies to secure and sustain political dominance.

The controversy gains further traction with instances of politicians facing corruption charges being acquitted after aligning themselves with the BJP. This pattern has led to accusations against the Modi government of selectively dropping cases against those who join their ranks, raising serious questions about the impartiality of the judiciary and investigative agencies under the current administration.

Reports indicate that since the BJP came to power in 2014, an estimated 25 opposition leaders have been absolved of corruption charges after joining the party. This statistic has contributed to the growing concern among various political factions and the public regarding the potential abuse of power and the erosion of democratic principles.
