Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has urged India and Pakistan to engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve the Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations resolutions, emphasizing that lasting peace in the region depends on a fair settlement.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas highlighted the moral and legal responsibility of the UN Secretary-General to address the long-standing issue, which has remained unresolved on the global agenda for 78 years.
The statement stressed the urgent need for international intervention, pointing to the ongoing cycle of fear, state-sponsored atrocities, and draconian laws in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) under India’s Hindutva-driven colonial agenda.
Minhas referenced the revocation of IIOJK’s special status on August 5, 2019, noting that India has systematically altered laws to seize lands, with the aim of transforming the Muslim-majority territory into a demographic minority.
Condemning the increasing repression, Minhas stated that communal forces have created a climate of terror against the indigenous population. He expressed concern over the displacement of the Gujjar-Bakarwal community through home demolitions and criticized India for reneging on constitutional commitments, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status.
The APHC praised the resilience of the Kashmiri people and their commitment to justice. It warned that unresolved tensions could lead to nuclear conflict, whereas a just resolution may foster peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
