Shenyang: Pakistan’s top envoy to China, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi, visited Shenyang, the capital of China’s northeastern Liaoning province, from June 8 to 10, 2026, to launch the Pakistan-China Joint Research Centre and represent Pakistan at the 3rd Liaoning International Friendship Cities Conference. The visit aimed to fortify economic, investment, and educational ties between the two countries.
According to Press Information Department, Ambassador Hashmi engaged in discussions with key provincial and city leaders, including Mr. Wang Xinwei, Governor of Liaoning Province; Mr. Zhou Bo, Chairman of the Liaoning Provincial CPPCC; and Mr. Zhao Wei, Vice Mayor of Shenyang. The meetings focused on enhancing cooperation in sectors such as fine chemicals, agriculture, minerals, information technology, and new materials. Both sides expressed optimism about the forthcoming sister-province agreement between Sindh and Liaoning, which aims to foster practical sub-national cooperation.
Ambassador Hashmi highlighted the alignment between Liaoning’s industrial capabilities and Pakistan’s development goals under CPEC 2.0. He extended an invitation to Liaoning-based enterprises to participate in the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference in Karachi in July 2026, emphasizing the potential of Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones for Chinese investors.
A central feature of the visit was the inauguration of the China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre at Shenyang University of Chemical Technology (SYUCT). Initiated by Ambassador Hashmi, the Centre is a collaborative effort involving SYUCT and Pakistani institutions like the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, NED University of Engineering and Technology, and the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar. It aims to foster joint research and talent development in chemical science and technology.
During a tour of SYUCT’s research facilities, Ambassador Hashmi engaged with Pakistani students, urging them to excel academically and contribute to Pakistan-China relations through knowledge and cultural exchange.
The Ambassador’s participation in the 3rd Liaoning International Friendship Cities Conference highlighted Liaoning’s extensive international partnerships, including its sister-city relationship with Karachi. The province’s focus on green development and advanced manufacturing offers further collaboration opportunities with Pakistan.
The visit underscored the growing partnership between Pakistan and Liaoning, reflecting a mutual commitment to deepen cooperation across various fields.
