Srinagar, 17 Oct 2023:Growing concerns surround alleged Hindutva-affiliated groups’ actions, which many locals believe are supported by the Indian army and police, aiming to create an atmosphere of fear and terror in the Jammu and Kashmir regions.
Kashmir Media Service details allegations against groups named BJP, RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, and Village Defense Guards. These organizations are suspected of being involved in the recent murder of a Muslim couple in Rajouri district. In the same district, a Kashmiri youth named Ulfat Hussain tragically passed away while in police custody. An official inquiry into Hussain’s death has been initiated by the District Magistrate.
Further escalating tensions, joint operations involving the Indian army, Central Reserve Police Force, and local police have been reported in Shopian district’s areas, including Manihal, Aloora, and DK Pora. Several arrests were made during these operations, with one individual, Bilal Ahmad Shah, being labeled as a member of a mujahid organization by the police.
In a collective statement, leaders from the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, including prominent names like Farooq Tawheedi, Muhammad Saleem Zargar, and Yasmeen Raja, have drawn parallels between the conditions in Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, emphasizing the aggressive tactics they believe are being employed by both the Indian and Israeli governments.
Furthermore, the critical Srinagar-Jammu highway has been closed due to landslides in the Ramban district, leaving over 200 vehicles stranded and worsening cold wave conditions, thanks to ongoing snowfall in the valley and rains in Jammu’s plains. This information was sourced from the Kashmir Media Service.
In separate incidents, two Indian army personnel died under varying circumstances in Rajouri district. One was discovered dead under unexplained conditions inside a camp, while the other’s death resulted from an “accidental fire” in the Balakot area of the Poonch district, according to the army’s statement.
