ISLAMABAD: Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has emphasized the necessity of expanding access to literacy and learning opportunities, particularly for individuals who remain outside the formal education system. His remarks came in a statement for International Literacy Day, underscoring the critical role of literacy in empowering individuals to make informed decisions and engage more effectively in society.

According to Press Information Department, Mr. Gilani stressed the importance of enhancing non-formal education, adult literacy, and skills development as essential strategies to overcome existing barriers to learning. He pointed out the need for greater attention to disadvantaged and remote areas to broaden educational access, particularly in the context of rapidly changing technological demands that require both digital competencies and practical skills alongside foundational literacy.

Mr. Gilani also acknowledged the vital contributions of teachers, parents, educationists, and community workers in advancing literacy and education, urging continued support and recognition for their efforts in shaping future generations. He called for a collaborative approach involving Federal and Provincial Governments, educational institutions, the private sector, and civil society to cultivate a culture of learning and knowledge throughout the country.
