Writ of State to be Enforced Following Attack on Prisoners’ Van, Says Information Minister

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced that the individuals involved in a recent attack on a prisoners’ van near Sangjani Toll Plaza in Islamabad would face severe punishment.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the attack involved 25 to 30 people attempting to intercept the van transporting 82 prisoners to Attock Jail. Despite the chaos, the police managed to thwart the attack, recapture nineteen prisoners who attempted escape, and maintain custody of all prisoners. The incident was attributed to workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as part of what the minister described as a continuous pattern of violent political tactics by the party, including past assaults on national landmarks and media stations.

The Minister confirmed that four assailants were arrested at the scene, where police also seized two vehicles and weapons. Two police officers were reported injured during the event. He assured that further identifications of the attackers would be made through CCTV footage from the toll plaza and stressed the government’s commitment to uphold the law forcefully, promising exemplary penalties to deter similar incidents in the future.
