Karachi: World Tuna Day is being observed today, focusing on the critical role tuna plays in nutrition, economic development, and livelihoods, while promoting sustainable fishing practices to prevent overfishing and safeguard endangered populations.
According to Radio Pakistan, the annual observance on May 2nd was established by the United Nations in 2016 to emphasize the need for conserving tuna stocks for future generations. Tuna fisheries operate in some of the most complex management environments globally, as these highly migratory species are vital to global food security, livelihoods, and international trade.
