Islamabad: A US court has formally indicted Indian national Nikhal Gupta on charges related to the alleged plot to murder Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The indictment was handed down by a judge who has scheduled a formal hearing for November 3, 2025.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the court ordered the confiscation of $15,000 found in Gupta’s possession. This amount was reportedly provided by a former officer of Indian intelligence to pay a contract killer.
Gupta was apprehended in the Czech Republic in June 2023 and was subsequently extradited to the United States a year later. The case has drawn attention to the activities of Indian intelligence agencies on the global stage. US investigative agencies have claimed that Indian intelligence was involved in a plot against a Sikh leader residing in the United States, which they argue constitutes a breach of international law and US sovereignty.
Reactions to these developments have raised concerns among the international community about India’s covert operations and the potential impact on its global reputation.
