UP govt to set up ATS commando centre in Deoband

Lucknow, August 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):The BJP communal government in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has decided to set up a training centre for Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) commandos in Saharanpur district’s Deoband town, known for its Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband.

Shalabh Mani Tripathi, the media advisor to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a tweet said that the work on opening of the commando centre had begun on a war footing. The state government has allotted 2,000 square meters of land to the UP ATS to start the commando centre in Deoband.

As per to media reports, the centre will train commandos and also offer refresher courses for the elite force. Meanwhile, opposition parties have strongly rected to the move terming it ‘communal and divisive’. Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput slammed the Yogi government over the decision and accused it of attempting to distract the people’s attention from real issues like lack of development, unemployment and non-payment of sugarcane dues in western Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party’s Vivek Silas described the move as communal and divisive, while pointing out several past instances of terror-related arrests where investigations have still not reached a conclusion under the BJP government in the state.
