PARIS, In response to the compounded challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and political upheavals in Myanmar, the UNESCO Antenna Office in Yangon (UNESCO Yangon) has launched an online Psychosocial Support (PSS) course for teachers. The course, available on the Myanmar Teacher Platform since October 2023, aims to equip teachers with essential skills for safeguarding the mental and physical health of children.
According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the course comprises three modules: psychosocial support in education, children’s responses to crises, and creating safe learning environments. It covers a broad range of topics, including stress management, creating safe spaces, Psychological First Aid, and addressing the needs of children with special requirements.
The course employs a mix of interactive elements, including activities, lecture videos, literature, quizzes, case studies, and tests, to ensure a comprehensive understanding for teachers. So far, 176 teachers have enrolled, with 105 completing the course.
UNESCO Yangon invites organizations and educators to join this initiative, which aims to integrate psychosocial support into education and promote the emotional well-being and resilience of children in Myanmar.
