Islamabad: Mr. Mohammad Naciri, Chief of Staff to the Executive Director of UN Women, engaged in discussions with H.E. Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights, to explore ways to bolster the ongoing partnership aimed at promoting women’s rights and gender equality in Pakistan.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting was attended by key UN Women representatives, including Mr. Jamshed M. Kazi and Ms. Fahmida Iqbal Khan. The discussions highlighted the collaboration between the Government of Pakistan and UN Women, emphasizing efforts to improve access to justice and the development of policies that protect the rights of women and girls.

Progress on the draft National Policy on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls was reviewed, with recognition of UN Women’s technical support in its development. The Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to establishing a comprehensive framework to enhance protective measures for women and girls.

The meeting also covered the upcoming SAARC Conference’s role in fostering regional cooperation on gender equality and the importance of strengthening Pakistan’s gender data ecosystem to aid in evidence-based policymaking and international reporting.

Mr. Naciri presented a letter of appreciation from the Executive Director of UN Women, commending Pakistan’s leadership in hosting the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women. Both parties expressed their shared commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality in Pakistan through international cooperation and effective policy implementation.
