Traders in IIOJK say Indian police breaking locks of their shops

Srinagar, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the traders in Srinagar have said that they have been asked by the Indian police to not observe a shutdown today. According to Kashmir Media Service, several traders and shopkeepers in Srinagar, including those in and around the city centre, Lal Chowk, told media they have been asked not to shut shops today.

“Police on Tuesday told our market’s president that shops should remain open on Thursday. If someone fails to do so, he will be himself responsible for the consequences,” a media report quoted one of the traders from market opposite Kashmir Haat as saying.

The trader, according to the report, said that police officials visited the market on August 4 and reiterated that shops should be kept open on Thursday, being observed as Black Day to register protest against Modi regime’s 05 August 2019 illegal move of repealing the special status of IIOJK.

Eyewitnesses told media men that Indian police personnel are breaking the locks of the shops in Lal Chowk, Goni Khan and Maharaj Bazaar and forcing the traders to keep the market open today. “August 5 is a day when our special status was snatched away from us. Our conscience won’t allow us to open shops,” a shopkeeper said.

The report quoted Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Sheikh Ashiq as saying that the traders have been getting calls from police. The same report came from Islamabad town where Indian police broke lock of shops and compelled the shopkeepers to open their shops.
