LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in a statement marking World Tourism Day, emphasized the role of tourism in developing human potential and fostering reflection. According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the Chief Minister highlighted the divine encouragement for travel and reflection upon creation, noting Pakistan’s abundant natural beauty and tourism potential.

CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif acknowledged the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s recognition of Lahore as the Tourism and Cultural Capital this year as a positive step. She noted that Punjab’s tourism resources would be utilized to their fullest extent to promote the region, stressing the appeal of Punjab’s natural and historical attractions to global tourists. Efforts are underway to enhance religious tourism and highlight the province’s historical, cultural, and natural heritage.

The Chief Minister highlighted the opportunities presented by ancient forts, religious sites, and scenic valleys. Initiatives such as the Murree Glass Train and the development of Kotli Sattian as a tourist destination are underway. She reiterated the government’s commitment to projecting a positive international image of Pakistan through tourism, which she believes can aid in economic and cultural development.

Efforts to improve tourist destinations across Punjab with modern facilities and sustainable initiatives are ongoing. The government aims to create economic opportunities for youth and local communities via tourism, underscoring its potential as a significant economic and cultural milestone for Punjab.
