Three more killed in Manipur violence

Imphal, September 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): At least three people were gunned down by unidentified men in violence-hit Manipur state of India. The gunmen killed these persons during an ambush between Ireng and Karam Vaiphei villages in Kanggui area of Kangpokpi district on Tuesday.

More than 160 people have been killed and several hundred injured since ethnic and military violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei Hindu community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status. Hindu majority Meiteis and Christian tribe Kukis are 50 and 49 per cent of Manipur’s population respectively.
