Islamabad, April 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): The National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) directed the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) to conduct their Audit of sports grants received from Olympic Council of Asia and International Olympics Committee by the Auditor General of Pakistan.
The Committee also directed the Director General, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to take strict action against the officials of Neutralization Committee, Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) who permitted the Football Teams to visit abroad without NOC. The Committee summoned the President, PFF to attend the next meeting to brief the Committee about the working and performance of the Federation.
31st meeting of the Standing Committee was held today at 12:30 p.m. in the Parliament House, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Mr. Nawab Sher, MNA.
Earlier, the Secretary General, Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) briefed the Committee that POA was established in 1948 under the directions of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to develop, promote and protect the Olympic Movement in the country in accordance with the Olympic Charter. He apprised that the Association is responsible to facilitate Pakistan Teams/athletes for participation in international multi-sports events ensuring hoisting of Pakistan Flag at international arenas.
The Association also conducts National/Inter Provincial Games in collaboration with respective Provincial Olympic Associations and Provincial Governments. POA arranges capacity building programs for athletes, coaches, technical official/sports leaders.
Furthermore, secured IOC scholarships of US$625/- each per month for 12 elite athletes for preparation to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and each athlete will avail US$20000 upto August 2024.
The Secretary General informed the Committee that the Association did not receive any grant from Government of Pakistan, however, take sports grants from Olympic Council of Asia and International Olympics Committee.
The Committee directed the Association to conduct their Audit of sports grants received from Olympic Council of Asia and International Olympics Committee by the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGPR).
The Director General, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) while briefing informed the Committee that Football Teams left abroad without obtaining NOC from Sports Board. The Committee directed the D.G (PSB) to take strict action against the officials of Neutralization Committee, PFF who permitted the Football Teams to visit abroad without NOC.
The Committee also directed the Director General, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to take strict action against the officials of Neutralization Committee, Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) who permitted the Football Team to visit abroad without NOC. Later, the Committee directed all the Chief Secretaries and Member Board of Revenues to attend the next meeting along with relevant record regarding demarcation of land between the provinces.
The meeting was attended by Rana Mubashir Iqbal, Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Behan, Ms. Shahida Rehmani, Ms. Rubina Irfan and Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, MNAs/Members of the Committee. The senior officers from Ministry of IPC, representatives from Revenue Department, Government of Punjab, POA, PSB were also present in the meeting.
