Karachi: The Consul General of Thailand, Mr. Surashete Boontinand, met with Karachi Mayor, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, on Tuesday to discuss mutual interests. The meeting took place at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s head office, where Mayor Wahab expressed condolences for the recent earthquake in Thailand and extended support from the people of Pakistan.

The discussion also covered the local government system in Sindh and Karachi. Mayor Wahab highlighted the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s role in delivering municipal services and mentioned ongoing efforts, in collaboration with the provincial government, to enhance the city’s infrastructure. He noted that development projects are underway in various areas of Karachi aimed at improving essential services for residents.

Attention was also given to the city’s industrial zones. Mayor Wahab outlined a strategy developed with commercial stakeholders to ensure balanced progress in all city sectors. Initiatives include road and bridge construction, streetlight repair, park restoration, and advancements in water and sewage systems.

Mayor Wahab emphasized Karachi’s significance as Pakistan’s primary business hub and its strategic importance in trade due to its port’s connectivity with the Middle East and Central Asia. He assured the Thai Consul General of support for Thai investments in Karachi.

Mr. Boontinand invited Mayor Wahab to a festival at the Thai Consulate and expressed optimism about Karachi’s development. He appreciated the efforts to improve city infrastructure and anticipated positive outcomes from these initiatives.
