Texas, Terry Meza, a member of the Texas House of Representatives, announced plans to introduce a resolution addressing the situation in Kashmir, following a meeting with the Friends of Kashmir International delegation. This initiative underscores growing international concern over human rights issues in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during the discussions, Meza expressed that the United States upholds high human rights standards and condemns violations anywhere in the world. The Friends of Kashmir International, led by Ghazala Habib, briefed Meza on what they described as severe human rights abuses in occupied Jammu and Kashmir by Indian authorities. The delegation, which included Hurriyat leader Abdul Hameed Lone and social leader Ashraf Bashir, highlighted the implementation of Hindutva policies by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which they claim have transformed the area into an open prison.
In addition to the talks, the delegation presented Meza with a dossier and booklets outlining the plight of “semi-widows” in the region—women whose husbands are missing but not confirmed dead. Ghazala Habib also gifted Meza a traditional Kashmiri dress, the Phiran, and a Kashmiri shawl, symbolizing the cultural heritage of Kashmir.
