Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan convened a meeting with Romina Khurshid Alam, the newly appointed Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, and a delegation from Pakistan’s food chain sector. The meeting aimed to integrate trade and climate policies to build a resilient and sustainable food supply chain amid global and domestic challenges.

According to Press Information Department, the discussions highlighted the stability of food availability and accessibility, while pointing out the urgent need to address affordability and supply chain efficiency. The delegation emphasized minimizing disruptions in the dairy and food sectors, which are sensitive to energy fluctuations and logistical challenges.

Minister Jam Kamal Khan reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted economic activity, especially in critical sectors, by promoting smarter energy use and improved logistics. He stressed that sustainable trade growth requires strengthened domestic supply chains and better coordination between federal and provincial entities.

Romina Khurshid Alam emphasized integrating climate resilience into food systems, advocating for climate-smart agriculture and efficient resource use to ensure long-term food security. She underscored the importance of fostering behavioral change, energy conservation, and environmentally responsible practices across industries.

The delegation discussed fuel consumption, transport inefficiencies, and the need for optimized freight systems, advocating for better trucking capacity utilization and increased rail network reliance. Both parties agreed on policy measures focusing on efficiency improvements to maintain economic momentum.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to develop a coordinated framework between commerce and climate institutions to strengthen Pakistan’s food systems, support industry continuity, and advance sustainable economic growth.
