Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat has raised concerns about the conditions faced by its leaders and activists detained in Indian jails.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat spokesman Ahmed Yaseen highlighted the wellbeing concerns of incarcerated leaders such as Ameer-e-Hamza, Ayaz Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Merajuddin Kalwal, and Muhammad Yousuf Falahi. He noted that these detainees are afflicted with various ailments and face additional risks due to their detention conditions and mental distress.
The statement praised the determination shown by the detained leaders, emphasizing that the people of Kashmir continue to support the Hurriyat leadership. It was stressed that Kashmiris are mindful of India’s efforts to disrupt their freedom movement. The spokesman also dismissed any electoral processes as alternatives to the right to self-determination, which Kashmiris have long pursued.
Ahmed Yaseen commended the resilience of Hurriyat leaders, activists, and the general populace imprisoned across India and the region. He affirmed the commitment of the Kashmiri people to persist in their quest for freedom, despite the challenges posed by Indian authorities.
The spokesman appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Council and international human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, to pressure India into allowing independent jail inspections. He called for swift action to improve the conditions of detained Kashmiris, ensuring their rights and dignity are protected.
