Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar emphasized the importance of regularly hosting sports and cultural events in Pakistan, describing them as a true representation of the nation. According to Radio Pakistan, Tarar made these remarks while addressing the Pakistan Tourism, Sports and Family Festival in Islamabad, accompanied by Yasir Ilyas Khan, the Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Tourism.
Tarar highlighted the multifaceted benefits of such events, noting that they promote sportsmanship, offer youth a platform to showcase their skills, and provide healthy recreational opportunities for the general public. He further elaborated that these events contribute to inclusive economic activity and development across various sectors.
The festival, as described by Tarar, includes an array of activities such as paragliding, hot air ballooning, and tent pegging, alongside family-oriented attractions like food and art stalls. Tent pegging, in particular, was singled out by Tarar as a symbol of Pakistan’s sporting heritage, with regular events serving to preserve cultural traditions and connect younger generations to their roots.
Tarar also praised the involvement of female participants, considering their presence an inspiration on an international scale. Echoing a sentiment of national pride, he asserted that Pakistanis are excelling in all fields.
Yasir Ilyas Khan, speaking at the same event, underscored the festival’s role in enhancing Pakistan’s soft image and fostering cross-border cultural ties. He pointed out the engagement of various stakeholders in this effort, highlighting the participation of diplomatic missions, including a Sri Lankan Buddhist delegation and the President of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce from Nepal. Khan noted that over twenty international delegation stalls were featured at the festival and announced plans for similar events nationwide.
